DOES IT MATTER?

In 1 Samuel 17 a battle is ensuing. The Philistines, led by a giant named Goliath, have set themselves in array against the people of God. Goliath is railing out accusations, insults and threats against Israel and her God. The very life and existence of Israel is at stake.

But, where is David? Where is the young man who had just been empowered by God’s Spirit to lead Israel into victory and strength? Where is the future king who had been equipped by God to defeat the foes that would oppose the rule and reign of Israel’s God? Much to our surprise, he’s in a pasture tending sheep!

What? How foolish! The anointed of God should be on the front lines! He should be leading the people of God into battle! Is he scared? Intimidated? Worried that God cannot help Israel in this moment? Not in the slightest. He’s FAITHFUL!

David is being faithful. Though it would have been tempting to follow Saul, as his brothers did, to the field of battle – his father sent him to the pasture!

No, David is not on the field of battle – he is not in the limelight – he is not being noticed for his skills in leadership or war – but he is being faithful! And although no one else coveted the pasture that David was in – God did! For it was the place where He met with David! It was the place where He taught David incredible lessons of trust and dependence upon His power and unfailing character. The pasture may not have mattered to many – but it mattered to God!

How insignificant it would have seemed to be tending sheep and humbly waiting on the needs of others while everyone else was assuming their positions in the army of God.

But, sometimes, it is being faithful in the seemingly insignificant and mundane tasks of kingdom work that brings us to places of great victory. You may feel undervalued, overlooked and unappreciated – feeling as though your labor is unfruitful or going unseen – but remain faithful beloved!

David would have never slew Goliath had he not been faithful to bring bread and cheese to his brothers on the battlefield! He would have never been prepared to believe God for the giant’s head had he not been forced to believe God to protect his father’s sheep from a lion or a bear!

Humble tasks and positions do not negate God’s favor and anointing on your life. They prepare you to walk in greater measures of it! They help to prepare you for the day of battle!

You may not see it or understand it now – but what you’re facing today is preparing you to slay bigger giants in your future! It is preparing you to tear down strongholds that are attempting to defy the reputation of your God!

Even when you can’t feel it HE is working!
